Today, a dozen of mayors and religious officials from cities in New Jersey were all arrested for a major corruption, money laundering probe by FBI agents.
The sweeps are taking place in Hudson, Bergen, Monmouth and Ocean counties. As of now, sources say the probes are centered on money-laundering and political bid rigging. 30 arrests have already been made as the politicians and leaders are being booked in Newark, NJ by the bus loads.
Myrna Williams, an FBI spokeswoman, says the arrests will go on until noon, but she couldn’t provide any additional information. It has been suspected that corruption has permeated New Jersey politics for years. Hopefully, this will be the first big step towards fixing the system.
